Pitsford Water Nature Reserve
A lovely, tranquil walk around the northern end of Pitsford Water, starting at the Fishing Lodge and following the shoreline through the nature reserve.
You do need a permit to walk this section of Pitsford Water, but as a Wildlife Trust BCN member I had an annual permit. Day permits are also available from the Fishing Lodge, so it’s relatively easy to get access if you’re not a member.
The route is a real treat for anyone who enjoys wildlife and a bit of peace and quiet. There are eight bird hides dotted around the reserve, giving plenty of opportunities to stop, take in the views and see what’s happening out on the water.
What struck me most was just how different this walk felt compared with my walk around the southern end of Pitsford Water, starting at Brixworth Country Park. They may be on the same reservoir, but the atmosphere couldn’t be more different.
This side feels quieter, wilder and much more removed from everything else. There’s something very relaxing about simply following the water, listening to the birds and taking your time.
One to feel at peace with nature.
