This is one of my favourite walks around Kettering and the surrounding countryside. It's a route I've returned to many times, but I'll always remember the first occasion I walked it – during the COVID lockdowns. Like many people, I questioned whether I should or shouldn't have been out walking, but those quiet country paths provided a welcome escape when the world seemed to have come to a standstill.
Starting in Kettering, the route heads out through Weekley before reaching the village of Geddington.

Walking into the village and seeing the magnificent Eleanor Cross never gets old. Standing here for well over 700 years, it's the best-preserved of the three surviving Eleanor Crosses built by King Edward I in memory of his beloved wife, Eleanor of Castile. It's one of Northamptonshire's true treasures and gives the village a character that's hard to find anywhere else.
From Geddington, the walk continues through more glorious countryside to the picturesque village of Newton before returning to Kettering. It's a route that offers a bit of everything—open farmland, woodland, quiet country lanes and villages full of history.
Even though I first discovered this walk during one of the strangest periods of our lives, it has become much more than a lockdown memory. It's a walk I return to whenever I want to remind myself just how lucky we are to have such beautiful countryside right on our doorstep.
